Florence, Alabama - small hometown feel and the benefits of a big city

Updated: Sep 29

The city of Florence, Alabama shows off some fine Americana.

Nestled on the north bank of the Tennessee in northwest Alabama, Florence is a city of about 40,000 people.

In Closing:

During the Civil War, Florence was a "crossroads" city. It was along major east/west travel routes and was a good place to cross the Tennessee River to travel south. Because of those factors, it changed hands from one army to the opposing army several times.

Florence is one of the larger cities in Alabama. It is filled with pretty places and friendly people. Those who have never visited have missed seeing a warm city rich in history and culture. It is right across the river from Muscle Shoals, another city with plenty of Americana culture to be proud of.

I hope to get back over there soon and do a better job of catching the real Americana flavor that is there.
