Lots of Things Happening on April 27, 2024

On Saturday, April 27, 2024, North Alabama was host to a big car show in Athens, and another car show in nearby Decatur. And oh yea, the weather was perfect!

The Show in Decatur

Saint Ann's Catholic School held a Seafood Fiesta and Car Show at the school on Spring Street in Decatur. I heard about the event when one of my friends in the band The Cadillacs told me that they were playing there. The Cadillacs are a great Doo-Wop and Rock-and-Roll band out of Florence. They have talent and style and have been doing it long enough to be excellent at what they do.

While the number of cars in the show was good-but-not-great, the quality of cars was great. The owners were friendly and the show was entertaining. I really liked the 1942 Plymouth, as well as the red Thunderbird and the 72 Dodge Challenger and the 62 Impala and, well, all of them!

The show included lots of good food and a crafts show. So, along with the good weather, it was a fun morning. Then I headed over to Athens.

A huge car show in Athens, AL.

The 17th annual Athens Car and Bike Show took place on April 27, 2024. The show takes place around the courthouse square and surrounding area each year on the last weekend in April, so mark your calendars. The event has been growing bigger and bigger each year and is now a huge event for antique and vintage cars, trucks, and motorcycles - and the people who enjoy seeing them.

This year the organizers reported more than 400 participants in the show. The event is a charity fund raiser for local needy organizations that serve the community.

This year the Mayor's Trophy was presented to Susan Wachtel of Athens for her 1951 Ford Deluxe Convertible (sorry, not pictured).

In Closing:

America loves its cars.

From the days of its birth America has been a big place, and Americans have loved to travel. And Americans have been an industrious people - recall Henry Ford. Add all that together, and Americana includes pretty antique automobiles, and trucks, and motorcycles.

This beautiful Dodge Challenger was at the car show in Decatur, Alabama.

American built cars are part of American history and culture. We like to make our cars pretty and we like to show them off in car shows. So be on the lookout for car shows in your area this summer and fall!
